So I know I said I'd write a blog about food- but I wanted to write a brief blog about my new found love- Bikram Yoga. Bikram's classes run exactly 90 minutes and consist of a set series of 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises. Bikram Yoga is ideally practiced in a room heated to 105°F with a humidity of 40%- it's HOT- really hot. After 10 minutes in the room- laying on my yoga mat, I've done more sweating then any traditional gym workout. After completing 26 postures and stretching my body int positions I've never thought better I am exhausted. I enjoy the final two minutes in "dead man's pose" more than any other position. I lay silently, just breathing...thinking of nothing.
As many of you know, my life right now is full of stress. Having 90 minutes of thinking of nothing outside of that Bikram room is life changing. I have only done 3 classes thus far, but I already feel more Zen- is that cheesy? I am sleeping better, I am more relaxed and I am feeling happy. Those 90 minutes have become something I look forward to- something I yearn for... I know 90 minutes in a 105°F room sound awful, but give it a shot. Maybe you'll find 90 minutes of zen too...
Since the cost is exorbitant ($20 per class) I will learn how to just breathe every day...
